Dr. Jack in the Data Center
Celebrating International Data Center Day – With a Seussical Twist
March 26th marks International Data Center Day—a time to recognize the critical role data centers play in keeping our digital world connected, efficient, and cool (literally). From streaming your favorite shows to powering mission-critical operations, data centers are the invisible backbone of our daily lives.
At Purkay Labs, we work alongside facility managers and operators every day to help optimize airflow and cooling efficiency. So when our Principal Consultant Gregg Haley decided to commemorate the day with a playful poem in the style of Dr. Seuss, we couldn’t resist sharing.
Whether you're new to the industry or a seasoned pro, we hope this poem gives you a chuckle—and a reminder of the hard work (and heart) behind every humming rack and blinking light.
Dr. Jack in the Data Center
I am Jack and I like CRACs,
CRAHs are okay too.
I like it cool and not too hot,
I measure with a tool.
Cool air here,
hot air there,
It's like herding cats.
If you have airflow mixing,
Your efficiency may go splat.
Blanking plates fill empty space,
keeping airflow in its place,
Leaving gaps will allow air to leak,
mixing hot and cold as we speak,
Not blocking the gaps,
after making holes in the floor,
I show those workers out the door.
Aisle Containment controls the air;
keeping cold air here,
and hot air there
Perforated tiles deliver the air,
but do the math if you care,
Their total CFM output cannot exceed,
the CRAC or CRAH capacity - indeed.,
Set points are important,
Are yours set to match?
Units not working together,
have a wrestling match.
I’ve had some fun doing this ditty,
A La Dr. Seuss I tried to be witty,
My prose may not be worthy of Seuss,
but the info within is something you can use.
